Happy 4th of July

Unfortunately, it was a rainy, dreary day on the 4th of July. The rain held out long enough for us to run our 5K that morning. But it rained most of the day after that. We decided to head to Columbus to surprise my Aunt Patty on her birthday. She has a cook out every year. I also wanted the girls to meet their new cousin Aurora Rose. We took the opportunity on the drive to talk a little with the girls about all of our blessings and how we are so lucky to live in a wonderful country. There are certainly many things that could change for the better. But we truly are blessed to be Americans when you think of the many alternatives that people endure around the world. Duane reminded us of a time when he was walking out of Target with Madison and they saw a soldier who was either home on leave or getting ready to serve. Madison told him thank you for keeping us safe and the soldier stopped and saluted her. Duane was obviously very affected by this even though Madison was too young to understand how significant this was. But we'll remember that story and tell her again when she is old enough to truly appreciate it. We thought it was important to stop on a day full of time with loved ones and celebrations, to remember all of those who were not with that family on that day because they were keeping us safe or lost their lives doing so. We enjoyed good food and spending time with our family that we don't get to see very often. My cousin Katina is more like a sister and I always enjoy the time we spend together. It was so nice to get some cuddle time with Aurora. She is a beautiful baby girl! That evening we all vegged out on the couch and watch a movie together. We had a happy 4th!
