Our Garden

For the last few years Madison has been asking if we could plant a garden. This year I finally decided to do it. We chose a spot in our yard that we thought would work, then we bought some plants. Duane did most of the work, but the girls planted a few plants. We planted cucumbers, peppers, onion, green beans, zucchini and tomatos. We were happy to get my in-laws seal of approval when they came for a visit. They have been gardening for many years. I know it sounds clique, but it really was awesome to plant a seed and watch it grow. The girls have been so excited to help water the garden and look for vegetables to appear. It had rained a few times one week so we didn't pay much attention to the garden. The next time we went out to water it, we found huge zucchini. I was so proud! Then my Kathy (mother-in-law/gardener extraordinaire:) told me that you're not suppose to let them get that big. Good to know! We'll just use the big ones to make zucchini bread. We also realized that we probably planted too many plants. It's a learning process but a fun one! Everyday Madison looks forward to going out and picking what's ripe. It's been a great experience for all of us. Not to mention how great it is to have fresh veggies on the table that came right from our own back yard.
